Breaking the cycle of poverty in the garbage dump is an uphill climb, made easier when a friend reaches down to offer a hand up. As a ROHI Project sponsor, you can get to know the student by email correspondence and the exchange of letters and pictures. You pray for them and support their education.

How to Sponsor a Child

2️⃣ Choose a child – If you already have a child in mind, email [email protected] to select a child in advance, write their name in “Gift note” or we can choose one for you.

4️⃣ Enter your contact details – Name, address, and other required information to create your online giving account.

Q: Why does the donation button take me to Trash Mountain Project?
A: ROHI Project operates under the parent organization, Trash Mountain Project (TMP), which provides 501(c)(3) non-profit status for our fundraising efforts. TMP’s federal tax identification number is 26-4775012, and donations to ROHI are tax-deductible as allowed by law. We are very grateful for their partnership in making this work possible.
Q: Can I communicate with my sponsored child?
A: Yes! You’ll receive letters and updates from your child, and you can write back.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Sponsorship is just $36 per month—less than the cost of a coffee a day!
Q: Why is there an option to cover the processing fee when I donate?
A: Our credit card processor (Stripe) deducts a fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction before the donation reaches our 501(c)(3) partner, Trash Mountain Project. For ACH bank transfers, the fee is much lower—only 0.7%. When you check the box to cover processing fees, your gift amount is slightly increased to offset those costs—making sure 100% of your intended donation goes to ROHI. Trash Mountain Project then passes along every dollar it receives for ROHI directly to the project in Honduras. Covering the fee is completely optional, but it’s a simple way to help your support go even further—especially for a small ministry like ROHI. ❤️
Q: Does $36 cover all the expenses for one child? A: Unfortunately, the answer is no. In 2025 the average cost per student at ROHI Project is about $102 per month (educational materials, food, teachers, medicine, etc). To help raise the funds needed and to build relationships between donors and our students, we have our Child Sponsorship program for a suggested $36 per month. Obviously, $36 only partially covers the true costs, so we allow two sponsors per student and rely on our general fund – named Community Sponsorship to cover any difference.
