October/November Newsletter – A Season of Gratitude and Growth

Honoring Our Heroes – Day of the Honduran Soldier (October 3rd)
We joined together to commemorate the bravery and dedication of Honduran soldiers with activities that inspired patriotism and gratitude.  This year we were able to celebrate one of our own. Carlos has become an example to the other people in the dump since he has not only left behind the garbage dump where he used to work but is also proudly helping to defend his country as a military policeman.

Introducing the Giving Tree – Your Gifts, Doubled! We’ve launched our Annual Giving Tree campaign with an exciting matching gift opportunity! Every donation made by December 31st will be matched, thanks to two generous donors offering a combined $50,000 match.

In 2025, we aim to expand and provide more students with access to life-changing education. With 180 students and only 11 teachers, one of our biggest needs is hiring additional staff. We also have a waiting list of students eager to join ROHI. Our goal is to raise $97,000 to meet current needs, and exceeding this will allow us to further expand our reach and support.

Your donation will have DOUBLE the impact! Learn more at: Matching Grant

9th Grade Success: Honoring Honduras with Pride  We are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of our 9th grade students—Norlan, Yolibeth, Dulce, Esperanza, Saidy, and Lariza—who successfully passed the rigorous Honduran Anthem exam!

This assessment tested their memorization of all seven verses and the chorus of the national anthem, their understanding of its meaning, proper flag folding, and more. Months of preparation paid off as they proudly demonstrated their dedication, national pride, and respect for their heritage.

With this milestone completed, these students are now ready for their middle school graduation on December 11th. Until then, they’re enjoying well-deserved fun activities at ROHI.

A Successful Medical Brigade from Health Center El Chile

We were blessed to welcome the Health Center El Chile team, who conducted a medical brigade at ROHI. The team evaluated all of our babies and children, providing them with essential health assessments. In addition, they offered medical consultations for the families, ensuring everyone received the care they needed.

As a special treat, the brigade also provided a healthy snack for all the children, promoting good nutrition and wellness.

We are deeply grateful for the support from Health Center El Chile and the care they’ve extended to our community. Their visit made a real difference in the lives of our children and families.

November: A Month of Fun and Creativity

With the school year ending in October, November was filled with joy and activity! Students spent their time crafting, playing games, and preparing decorations and entertainment for the upcoming Christmas party.

These activities brought laughter, creativity, and teamwork, making it a memorable month for everyone at ROHI. Stay tuned for the highlights from our Christmas celebration!

Youth Spiritual Retreat 2024: CONNECTED TO JESUS

This year’s Youth Spiritual Camp was a life-changing experience for our students. Through games, heartfelt praise and worship, and even a gala evening, they deepened their connection to their faith and each other.

Under the theme CONNECTED TO JESUS, the camp inspired our youth from the trash mountain in Tegucigalpa to become agents of change and believe in the power of their dreams. We are confident that God will continue to work powerfully in their lives.

Life-Saving Surgery – Kimberlym’s Journey
Our beloved Nursery teacher, Kimberlym, is recovering well, and we continue to ask for your prayers for her strength, healing, and comfort during this time. On November 13th, we reached out to you for help, and you answered in an incredible way.

In Honduras, where medical resources are limited, Kimberlym’s emergency, life-saving surgery could only be performed at a private hospital. This type of colon tumor is often a death sentence in Honduras, but thanks to your swift and generous response, we were able to cover the cost of her surgery and follow-up treatments. Your support literally saved her life!

Please continue to keep Kimberlym in your prayers as she recovers and undergoes further treatment. Your kindness has made all the difference to Kimberlym and her family.

A Time to Be Grateful – Thanksgiving Reflections
We came together to reflect on the many blessings this year has brought, celebrating the spirit of gratitude as a community.  We wanted to thank God for his blessings, for every donor and sponsor, for every little one and family that belongs to ROHI.  It was a beautiful time of sharing and union, demonstrating the love of Jesus.

THANK YOU!  Your prayers and support make all of this possible—thank you for believing in our mission.  God bless you!
