April Memories: Growing Dreams, Changing Lives

April brought color, celebration, and powerful reminders of why the ROHI Project exists: to help students rise above difficult circumstances, discover their potential, and walk boldly into the future.

From Professional Day joy to Easter celebration and inspiring stories like Rut’s, here’s a look at what’s been happening.

They Dressed Up Like Their Dreams

Professional Day at ROHI was more than fun—it was a window into the future.

Students came dressed as the professionals they aspire to become: chefs, teachers, doctors, mechanics, pastors, beauty stylists, and more. It was a joyful, hope-filled day that allowed children to imagine careers beyond the trash dump. Parents were overwhelmed with emotion seeing their children imagine a better future.

He Is Risen! Easter Celebration at ROHI

At ROHI, we celebrated Easter with a day full of joy, community, and purpose!

Students spent the day together at El Picacho, a beautiful park overlooking Tegucigalpa. They explored, played games, and hunted for Easter eggs—including the golden egg prize! Most importantly, they remembered the resurrection of Jesus and the hope of new life we have in Him.

We are so thankful to every donor who made this outing possible. Your generosity continues to bring joy, dignity, and restoration to children from the trash dump.

Meet Rut — A Dream Taking Flight

Rut and her twin brother Yordi were raised in the trash dump by a mother who worked tirelessly as a scavenger, dreaming of a better life for her children. School felt out of reach—until you stepped in.

Thanks to your generosity, Rut graduated from ROHI in December and began nursing school this February! Once a timid girl, she has grown into a confident, compassionate young woman who loves learning and helping others.

She now studies hard, attends classes, and is training at the education hospital—joyfully pursuing the once-impossible dream of becoming a nurse.

New Skills & A Safer Home: Hope in Action

In March, we shared an exciting opportunity for three of our older high school students—Aniel, Maynor, and Norlan—to begin vocational training in barbering. For them, this is more than a class. It’s a pathway to dignity, stability, and independence.

In a beautiful act of generosity, their barber school teacher provided full scholarships for the course itself. Then, thanks to our incredible ROHI supporters, donors stepped in to cover the cost of barber tools, transportation, and lunch scholarships. It’s a team effort—and it’s working.

The young men have jumped in with excitement and courage. They’ve already begun practicing on real clients—gaining confidence, discipline, and a vision for a sustainable future.

Please keep them in your prayers as they continue this life-changing journey.

And for Norlan, the blessings continued—his family’s roof and unstable pallet walls were recently rebuilt by another generous donor. Their home is now dry and secure, offering shelter and peace of mind. It’s more than a construction project—it’s a reminder that God provides through His people.

Sponsorship Drive Results & the Ongoing Need

On February 24, we launched our Child Sponsorship Drive with a bold goal:
Find sponsors for 42 children by April 15.

Thanks to your generosity, 23 children now have sponsors! That’s 23 lives transformed with access to education, meals, medical care, and mentorship.

But as of May 6, 59 of our 182 students are still waiting
for someone to say: “I believe in you.”

This Is ROHI 2025 — A Picture of Hope

We’re excited to introduce you to all of our students—class by class—from nursery to university-level technical training! This year, we’re blessed to have 180 students enrolled.

God is good. He has allowed us to witness children and youth studying instead of scavenging on the trash mountain. Many who once worked under the hot sun now learn, grow, and thrive in safe, nurturing classrooms. They are well-fed, loved, and filled with hope—thanks to your faithful support.

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I lack nothing.” – Psalm 23:1

🙏 Please continue to keep each child, their families, and our staff in your prayers.
